Who Is Your Favorite Ripple Leader?

If you read our last post you know we’re focused on Ripple Leadership this month. This got me thinking, which, as we all know, can be dangerous.

Who has inspired you as a Ripple Leader?

You know, that someone who sticks out to you for how they treated you or the people they led? Perhaps it’s someone that approached the responsibility of stepping up to do right by others even if they weren’t officially in a leadership role. We all have that person that stands out from the rest. Maybe it was a boss or a sports coach. Perhaps it was a teacher, a parent, or just a friend.

Whoever it is there’s a reason that they popped into your mind when I asked the question above. The made a difference in your life somehow. I bet they don’t know what an impact they’ve had on you.

So let’s change that.

If you are game to create a Ripple of epic proportions I think you will love this challenge.

Take out a notecard and a pen. Yes this needs to be handwritten and not an email or text. Don’t make me come over there!

Write:

Dear ___________, I am writing you today because there’s something I want to share with you. I was asked who inspired me as a Ripple Leader recently. You instantly came to mind because of how __________________. I am quite certain you have no idea what an impact you’ve made on me so let me just tell you. (Obviously you continue on from here).

If you just start there and explain what a difference they made and how they stood out as a Ripple Leader in your eyes you will be starting something magical. Your words have a very powerful and lasting meaning. And when you take the time to write them this note of appreciation you will be creating a Ripple in their life and your own.

Here’s the thing. Most people never hear the words thank you much less how or why they’ve made a difference to someone. When they get this card in the mail it will be a day they will remember forever. Trust me.

But what if this person is no longer with us?

Well, that would be sad but here’s a way you can honor them. Find a date of significance like their birthday or perhaps the date you first met or started working with them and put it as a recurring reminder on the calendar. Do the card. Put it in the envelope and put it in your sock drawer. Then put it away. When that date rolls around, take it out, send a little good Ripple Gratitude towards Heaven and read the card out loud.

It seems crazy but it will be one of the most impactful experiences of your year I promise you. And somehow, I have a sneaking suspicion they’ll hear you. No matter where they are.

So are you up for it? Are you ready to make a difference and start one heck of a Ripple?
