Pushing Hard Enough
This morning I asked on my daily #Ripplethoughtofthday on Twitter whether you are pushing yourself hard enough. I've been thinking about this question a lot myself lately. Am I doing everything I can to stack the odds in my favor? Am I taking the necessary steps each day to achieve the very picture of success that I hold in my mind's eye? Have I been pushing myself hard enough to get what I really want out of my life, my career, and my relationships?
Big questions.
Hard questions.
If I am being completely honest, questions I sometimes don't feel like asking myself.
Why do you ask? Well, because I don't generally like the answers that come back.
I am a big believer that we need to do everything we can to achieve whatever it is that we want. Call it a goal, objective, that startup company you've been noodling on for years or in my case - positioning myself, my book, my training, and my speaking to get more it in front of the people and companies that need it the most.
Not too long ago I was talking to a good friend and sage mentor of mine, Kelsey August, about what's next in my Ripple Career. After sharing all of the good things that have happened for me this year she looked me straight in the eye and said, "You are finally ready." What she meant was that all the hard work and effort I've put into creating my brand, my training, and in general, my mission in life, all of that heavy lifting (and boy has it been heavy!) is finally starting to pay off. She then went on to say, "So what are you going to do about it?"
That question sort of sent me into a tailspin. What did she mean, I've been working my ass off to make it this far? The effort is starting to pay off, didn't she just hear what I told her? So what else can I do? I didn't say it at the time but that thought stuck in my craw ever since. In fact, I've thought about that conversation for weeks now and ever since we had that conversation I keep finding myself asking that very question I put out on Twitter this morning. Am I pushing hard enough?
The answer that comes back every single time is a resounding no. I can be doing more. I can be doing much more in fact.
So no matter what success I've found this year and what momentum I've already established for myself going into next year, there is always more I can be doing. That simple realization has me refocused and committed that this momentary blip in sales because conference and training opportunities will be just that if I don't continue to push myself harder to make MORE things happen. So thank you Kelsey for that great question and for pushing me to push myself.
I am sure this time next year, I will be looking back over the past year with a big smile. We'll celebrate it over sushi and maybe a little (or a lot) of sake!
So what about you - Are you pushing yourself hard enough? If not, why not? Aren't YOU ready?
